In the early 2000s, the Singapore Armed Forces needed to replace their aging M113 APCs, which had weak armor and outdated electronics. In 2006, the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) began developing a new combat vehicle in response. In 2017, ST Kinetics won the contract to build and develop the vehicle in a joint venture with Israeli defense contractor Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. The first prototype of the vehicle, named the Hunter, was unveiled at the Singapore Airshow in 2018. Deliveries of the Hunter AFV variant, equipped with a 30-mm Bushmaster II cannon and Spike missiles, began to the army as early as 2019. The crew can remotely control all of the vehicle’s armament from inside the hull. The Hunter features a reverse gearbox and provides the crew with access to electronic systems that offer 360-degree situational awareness. Approximately 140 vehicles from the Hunter family were built, though the exact number remains classified.
