The Soviets all-killing gun
The 107mm Zis-24 was a real project by the soviets to make a high velocity anti tank cannon. The goal of the project was to make a powerful gun that could penetrate anything that the enemy might deploy in the future. Vasility Grabin, the artillery designer, started developing a lighter variant of the prototype that could be fitted the Kv-3, Kv-4 and Kv-5 tank projects. Even after the tank projects ended development on the gun continued.
However during trials with the gun there were many issues found. The lifespan of the barrel was only rated to be around 250-300 shots which was not good enough. The shells it was using did not perform well, with it only penetrating 158mms at 100m while the goal was to have around 200mms at 1km. There were also a very prominent issue with ejecting the spent casings. Altough these issues could be somewhat easily solved the project was cancelled. Only 2 prototypes were made with none ever being mounted on a tank.
