Object 277

The Object 277 was a soviet heavy tank prototype devoled during the late 1950s. It was developed alongside the Object 278, 279 and 770, following the specifications the GBTU had laid out. Development began in 1956 along side the 278 with the only difference between the 2 was that the 278 was developed with an experimental Gas turbine engine in mind. The first prototype was completed in 1958. During the test it was found to be inferior to the Object 770 prototype which was later favoured. However, the whole heavy tank project was ended by decree from Nikita Khrushchev to end any tank weighing over 37 tons and instead start focusing on MBTs and ATGMs instead. The 277 weighed 55 tons which ment the end of its development. Only 2 were made with 1 of them being the 278 variant.
